Position Summary

The primary focus is to provide oversight of the accounting department and to ensure daily and monthly activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Controller is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial books and records from a legal entity and management reporting perspective. The Controller is responsible for the overall monthly close process, Financial Statement preparation and other related reporting. The Controller will report to GS’s Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage all aspects of financial accounting for GS entities as assigned
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis both to internal and external constituents
  • Coordinate annual audits with external and internal auditors
  • Work with Regulatory team on SEC and FINRA reporting requirements (e.g., FOCUS reports, Form 17-H, etc.)
  • Oversee general ledger account maintenance and data entry ensuring records systems are maintained in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform detailed review of monthly account reconciliations and variance analysis MTD/YTD on an account level basis and legal entity level
  • Work closely with business unit controllers and other members of the GS Finance team on monthly’s closes and other issues
  • Interface with business unit leaders to provide all requested information and perform ad hoc project work
  • Opine on revenue recognition and other accounting policy questions as necessary
  • Document policies and procedures surrounding accounting functions
  • Timely completion of the general ledger close for assigned legal entities at month/year end with overall review of assigned entities
  • Provide reconciliation of management to GAAP reporting (including FOCUS reporting)
  • Manage a financial system resource to ensure the Workday (general ledger), OpenStream (reporting systems) and other financial systems are properly structured and maintained to meet book and records, control environment and reporting needs
  • Work with the Regulatory team to provide backup capability on key regulatory functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public Accountant/Auditor experience preferred (Financial Services Sector) – 3 to 5 years
  • Workday and OneStream experience, a plus
  • Broker-dealer regulatory reporting experience a plus

Basic Qualifications

  • 7 to 10 years of experience with financial services businesses; broker-dealer experience a plus
  • Degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and skills - CPA required

Salary Details

  • Annual base salary between $125,000 and $175,000
  • The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position. Actual base salaries may vary depending on factors such as location and experience. The range listed reflects base salary only, and the total compensation package may include other components such as incentive compensation
  • Work Location: Currently, this role is expected to be in the New York office at least 4 days per week
