Position Summary

Guggenheim Partners is seeking a CMBS Analyst to join its Investment Management division.  Guggenheim Partners Investment Management (GPIM) manages approximately $6 billion in the Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities sector across a variety of total return and life insurance strategies.  The CMBS Analyst will be responsible for reviewing all collateral and structural aspects of CMBS transactions with primary responsibility for evaluating and underwriting commercial mortgage loans and commercial properties. The CMBS Analyst will also be responsible for credit surveillance of existing positions and maintaining credit risk reports for Sector Lead and Senior Management. The position is located in Santa Monica.

Essential Job Functions

  • Underwrite commercial mortgage loans in connection with CMBS investments including Conduit, CRE CLO, SASB, and SFR.
  • Maintain up-to-date data, market information, and views on the health of commercial property types and commercial property markets and risks and opportunities therein.
  • Assist in development of ad-hoc research notes, credit memos, and monthly/quarterly credit reporting for CMBS positions.
  • Build and maintain strong business relationships with investment banks, brokerage firms, issuers, and rating agencies, etc.
  • Develop and assist in presentations to senior management, sales and marketing, and clients.
  • Support trading function with timely research and collateral updates.
  • Develop expertise with existing underwriting tools and models
  • Work with groups throughout Guggenheim to employ expertise on structure and collateral.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the scope and success of our business.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong credit, finance, economic, business and technical skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of CMBS credit models, uses, and limitations
  • Ability to multi-task across analytical, administrative, and research activities in a detail-oriented and timely manner.
  • Strong commitment to performance and accuracy of work product.
  • Team oriented individual with ability to work well with diverse groups.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years in commercial mortgage lending and/or commercial property valuation (required)
  • Experience with CMBS (preferred)
  • CFA charter or commitment to complete the program.
